Hm.
So that whole Nicole situation. Hm. Well yeah, I was keeping low expectations. And I guess I should have noticed this, but in a message she send me a ways ago she mentioned she had been speaking with some other guy. I guess she’s more interested in him than me. I had misinterpreted her message, so didn’t think that was the case, so I guess whatever hope I had in that situation evaporated. Same old story. Again.
She would be a good friend to have, but she lives 40 minutes away, which is quite a ways to drive for a friend that you’re just starting to get to know. I would drive that far for a good established friend… Anyhow.
I would give up. But something desperate in me won’t let me give up.
If I did give up, I might go do that WWOOFing project in Japan or Italy.
Watched Evil Dead 2, which didn’t hold up to the hype but was enjoyable to watch. Then watched Ramen Girl, which I think could have been so much better with a few changes. It seemed like a movie written by someone I know who I will not name. It was halfway chick flick, halfway success in spite of obstacles drama.
Almost done with season 3 of Star Trek Voyager.
Applied to a few apartments. Haven’t heard back from them.
Going to see the doctor on Tuesday for the first time in 3 years. I don’t expect anything bad.
I’m tired. And discouraged. And I’m kind of depressed again. I really need a change of scenery but I’m in a hole and getting out from any direction is going to be really difficult.
I need to give up on finding a girl. It’s impossible.

Called the doctor today to arrange my first regular checkup in 3 years. I wonder if it will go all well. I think so.
And I spent 3 hours watching the BBC film version of Hamlet. It was interesting… not how I think I would imagine the interactions between the characters. I mainly watched it for Patrick Stewart, who was good but didn’t have a huge role as he only played Claudius. I think the guy playing Hamlet kind of threw in a bit too much crazy…
Beyond that… today was uneventful. More looking for apartments with no success.

Well I have the new blog system up and running on blog.bagelsound.com. Might tweak a few visual aspects of the theme, but I like simplicity. It’s not easy for other people to navigate, which I wonder about…
I’ll be importing plastic-fork entries to the journal later. Didn’t seem to be working just now…
Also today I spent an hour explaining blogs to a new client. Being paid for consultation, although as always I don’t feel right charging for something that I feel like I would tell anyone who was interested.
Contacted some more people about places to stay around the area… Not really any good prospects at the moment. I think I should look on the job end of things, but I really want to do this iPhone application thing.
And I just purchased this game: Imaginarium. The game seems very cool and I support that genre. I want to make games like that.
At the store I spent 5 minutes examining toothpastes to try and figure out what the differences were.
And later I’m going to watch Hamlet with Patrick Stewart. We’ll see how that goes.

I have spent WAY too much time on this today, but hopefully I’ve got everything working.
The comments weren’t able to be imported into wordpress. Some kind of lame issue that’s been going on for years by the look of the discussions on the subject, but Livejournal I suppose isn’t popular enough for anyone to do anything about it. I don’t think the comments even will work correctly. But I suppose we’ll see…
But beyond that, today was meh. Eclipse. Interesting, but definitely not as cool as the one I saw in China. That was was actually easier to see because of the cloudy day I saw it in... I got really lucky on that one. But it was cool to see the eclipse from my home and also to see how the eclipse affected all the shadows from the trees. Got some good photos with my iPhone.
And what else. Watched a movie called Intimacy, which I thought would be more interesting. I guess it did have some valid portrayals of "intimacy" and questioning what it was.
What else. Watched a lot of Star Trek Voyager. I'm about halfway through the third season.
Oh and worked on designing my new blog. I'll probably be moving to it soon. I wonder if there's a wordpress application that will let me post directly to it without going to the site...

I'd like to get a sense of how many people read this in order to know how many people I would be disappointing if I moved my online journal to a private blog on my own site.

Yesterday after work went down to Santa Cruz to meet with Nicole again. Her friend Lauren joined us for some cave exploration on UCSC's campus. Apparently they have some really deep and cool caves over there. After a little while though they seemed hesitant to go on so we went back. I wanted to explore more but I didn't want to take them farther than they wanted.
We went to the store next to pick up some cookie making supplies. Then went to get some pineapple and pepperoni pizza. It would have been a lot better if the bread wasn't as spongey... but it was good.
Then hung out listening to music with some other of her roommates, and eventually went on to make cookies. But for some reason we filled up so much on beer before the cookies that we couldn't eat that many.
When planning this excursion Nicole had mentioned she wanted to see a mind twisted movie. I happened to mention I knew a movie that was extremely messed up but didn't want to subject her to that. But of course she insisted that I bring over Visitor Q. I think I gave adequate warning of it's nature, never the less we watched it. Kind of an odd movie to watch with someone you've only met once before, but they seemed to enjoy how weird it was. Anyhow. After that watched some Venture Brothers and then called it a night. There was a slight lingering at the doorway saying bye, and the hug was a bit longer than a casual one... but since I was still sick-ish, and I was also really tired, I didn't want to make any moves. I'm also unsure of my exact feeling towards her. This second meeting has made me like her more... I wonder what she thinks of me.
On the way home I hit a raccoon. It was late, dark, I was tired, and I only saw it in the last minute. It was pretty big though, and made quite a noise going under the car. I wasn't sure what to do... so I drove slower until I was sure nothing was wrong with the car and continued. That's the first time I've ever hit roadkill that big. I feel bad about it, but it's really a stupid animal.
Today I'm trying to be productive. It's sort of going along. Inquired about some rooms in Santa Clara to rent for June. Also emailed an arts faire some questions about applying to sell prints of my photos.
Cough cough.
- music:Darts Of Pleasure - Franz Ferdinand
After work biked home in really windy weather. Kat came over and we went on a hike at Rancho. Then came back and watched this absolutely awful French movie called A Tale of Springtime. Such a slow movie, and didn't go anywhere. I have no idea why it was on my netflix list and I'm sad to have wasted my time watching it. We fast forwarded through a lot of it too and didn't seem to miss much.
I should sleep early, but gotta work out. Gotta keep that schedule going.
- music:Train in Vain (Stand by Me) - The Clash
RoboCop was also an action movie. I enjoyed it, it was pretty simple and the good guys consistently won, which is something nice to have now and then.
I'm lacking a lot of motivation to do these other projects, like Logo Tournament and the iOS lessons. But I should get to them.
My nose is stopped up today. Seems like I'm experiencing sickness, but only one symptom at a time.
Nothing else to talk about today.
- music:Kaettekuru Rider - Masato Shimon
I've been two things lately:
- Feeling like I'm falling into one of my depressed moods. The weight of everything seems to be a bit heavier.
- Feeling a bit more creative. Simpler words are blossoming into larger ones. Metaphors and similes are paying visits to my daily dialogues. Ideas are congealing.
This can only mean that I will end up scrawling out some dark creation, maybe satirical or mocking in nature, most likely futile conclusions in a reflection of my mood.
Or maybe not.
Aunt and Uncle are over currently. Good to see them. My dad's side of the family is having a reunion here in June. I haven't seen them in a long long time... I don't know what's happening there.
And I got my photo books in the mail today! They look really good, and tempt me to start selling prints at art shows. Damn. Am I a better photographer than I ever thought I was? Should I follow that calling?
Maybe things will get better.
- music:Frank Sinatra - Cake
Oh and that Nicole situation? Probably not going anywhere. I appreciate it when people are forthright with their feelings on situations, especially ones involving relationships. Anyhow, we'll see where the wind blows on this one, but it'll probably be back into the docks.
- music:Dizzee Rascal - Fix Up - Ratatat
We went for food. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling great so my appetite was a bit missing, and I only had soup. Then chilled with her friends at their house while trying to figure out what her new caterpillar pet eats. I discovered later it was a Orgyia vetusta. And then we went to her concert. She plays this big "Eb Contra Bass Clarinet". The concert was good, but my throat was really hurting through the whole thing because of my verge on sickness. They played an interesting set with something called Galactic Empires, a song supposed to reflect on three galaxies, and also Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, which was entertaining especially because it had an amusing script that went along with the piece in the program. I don't really see how Godzilla could have been beaten by some cannonballs shot out of the Treasure Island pirate ship, but whatever. I was hoping they'd play the original Godzilla theme, but that wasn't included. Still good! Anyhow, headed back to her place and watched some old videos on my computer while chatting. Might have made a move if I wasn't concerned about getting her sick. Probably better that I didn't.
I've decided I like her, I just have no idea how much. Could be very little, could be a lot, I think it will depend on what she turns out like the more I get to know her. She seemed a bit shy and nervous in that first meeting... I was a little too. Distance is also annoying, since she's in Santa Cruz 40 minutes or so away. And she's really busy.
Anyhow, enough of that.
What else.
Brother saved over my FF12 save file. That's 8+ hours wasted. But I'm not so upset about it, I guess in perspective it's a very small problem. But I'm not going to start playing the game again anytime soon... I don't like repeating things.
Going to apply for a job in SF today (hopefully I get my portfolio together and do it today). Looks interesting.
While working on my Songsmithing project, I found the old Japanese shows I have the midi files to and named them correctly. Some of those openings are hilarious. Makes me want to dress up like one of them for a halloween, but no one would understand the costume.
That'll be it for the moment.
- music:Keep Loose - Jimmy McGriff
Possibly even throw it into a Wordpress. Drupal is a lot more of a pain to update...
Watching Brent Spiner's web series. It's... got some laughs but kind of drags on.
This morning I had a dream about breaking my teeth. I was at some large city in the middle of all these countries in Africa, the borders of the countries made kind of an inverse star from the center of the city. There were also three large airports and I had to take a taxi to get to one of them with some female travel companion. But I guess while walking through the airport, my teeth started to break apart. And I can remember going into the bathroom and trying to rinse my mouth with water, and thinking it couldn't be a dream because I could distinctly feel the water swishing in my mouth. Soon after I woke up and realized, oh wait, it was a dream.
Parents got back from their trip. They got me this great Portuguese cookbook that has Francesinha in it, which is awesome.
So now I've got to start planning for the future. Told mom about the Austin idea and she seemed disapproving because she didn't think Austin was a very good place. She cited political sentiments over there, but I didn't really have a problem with that when I was there.
Went to the DMV and got the restriction lifted on my license. But because I was in the middle of applying to get a motorcycle license I had to revoke what I had done on that. I guess I'll have to get my motorcycle license sometime later...
Watched The Avengers with Mode and Sam. My assessment: The acting was actually pretty good. I think they really embodied their characters well. The graphics of course were over the top, but appealing. Beyond that, the story was just shit. Not that I expected anything more than that, but it was just a bit disappointing that there wasn't any darker twists. Dialogue was fluffy and not hard on your average dumb American's understanding.
Worst part: Kid sitting in back of me kicked my chair through the WHOLE MOVIE. I had to move over a seat, but the impact from the chair next to me still affected the one I was sitting in. I normally am not bothered by kids kicking my seat, like in airplanes, which happened all the way to New York from Barcelona. But in a theater where I'm trying to enjoy a movie without distractions, I kind of want to scold the parents.
Watched a bit of Mr. Magoo cartoons. I love the voice actor - who also played Richard Thornhill the Third - but the cartoon is just so extremely dull or stupid or racist. And half of them aren't even featuring Mr. Magoo. I find the concept of a really blind old man mistaking things around him hilarious, but they really didn't bring it to it's full potential.
And I never, ever want to see that Leslie Nelson movie.
Annnnnnd as a final note, started replaying Final Fantasy XII. Really great game, I just hope it doesn't consume my productivity.
Gotta be more productive...
Actually, I finally finished going through all my photos. That's one accomplishment done. That reminds me that I should back up my computer today.
I have mixed feelings about that movie. Let me start off by saying that Johnny Depp is a much more suitable actor for Hunter Thompson. Or maybe because I saw him playing HT first I think of him as the definitive actor. Just like hearing a cover of a song first.
But Bill Murray did an alright job. It seemed almost like he was forcing it... Like he was trying just a bit too hard to be the nuts arrogant asshole that HT was. And the movie was kind of playing with offense and scandalous content... it didn't really commit to what it could have been.
This would be a great movie to compare acting styles (with Fear and Loathing of course).
No other news.
Last night watched Thor. Not great. Some movies I can really respect Natalie Portman in, others I have no idea why she accepted to do them (besides money I guess).
Also watched Trigun Badlands. Kind of nice to be reminded of that series, I haven't seen it in so long, but it did seem... eh... not really my scene anymore. Very cliche action anime.
Today watched a speed run of FF9. Probably a waste of my time, but I have a strange affection for speed runs, especially of games I've played myself.
Now I'm beginning to read Corto Maltese. Not sure how it's going to be, but he certainly looks bad ass in the images I've seen.
I've been getting bug bites in odd places.
- music:The Casbah 12/1/07 (Doug Sahm show) repost - Brian Parrish
Buuuuut it wasn't Aardman Studio's finest. There was the usual cute humor and small details, references to some pop culture, and other things... but in all it wasn't really special. Something I felt like I could rent and watch on a lazy day.
Side note: Went to Netflix to give the movie a rating (3 stars) and noticed that they have Pirates available, the porn made into a crappy movie. And lo and behold, there's a sequel?? 9_9
Anyhow. I've discovered Baja Fresh to be a very good fast food restaurant. They pay a lot of attention to welcoming the customers and making sure everything is good. Restaurant quality service, and restaurant quality food, fast food quality speed, buuuuut high end fast food prices. Worth it.
Other than that, it was a lazy weekend with a whole bunch of cancelled plans. Kat and I are going hiking on Thursday. Friday I'm going up to Oakland to chill with a girl I know from the internets who seems pretty cool, and kind of reminds me of my old friend Athanacia. This Nicole girl and I have been rain checking to hang out a few times.
Other news, other news.
I tried using soup broth to make couscous like Anthony recommended and it actually worked really well. Threw in some cucumber, onions, garlic, and then for spices used parsley (dried so didn't give off much flavor) and cumin (which worked really well). Threw in salt but didn't seem to change the taste too much.
Still not as good as the couscous in Morocco.
Watching more Star Trek Voyager. On the second season now. Not as good as I remembered.
The weeks are going by really fast all of a sudden.
I haven't fully gotten back to my checklist, and by that I mean I'm not working out, writing up my travels, or teaching myself the iOS, but I'll get to that.
- music:TMBG Podcast 53 - They Might Be Giants
I've been soaking back into regular life.
I just watched American Psycho, the 2000 film with Bale. While on the trip I read the book, which was hard to get through since it felt like the whole book really didn't go anywhere. It was just kind of the same thing over and over again. I can see how someone would argue against that though. I mean I understand what the author was bringing across - and I assume that he was juxtaposing how psychotic American society is in regards to music, beauty, social status, etc with actual psychotic killing an what not. Also just the glimpse into a serial killer's mind. I got it, but... it was... lame. Gore, sex, and yeah. Okay. But... it just felt empty.
And so did the movie. The movie just seemed like a cheap imitation of the book, toned down for an actual audience.
(Imitation only has one m. Why is that?)
So a waste of my time? Maybe not since it was something to think about. But I wasn't really entertained as much as I was perturbed.
Now I'm watching Suspiria. Don't know much about this movie but it's starting off pretty creepy. I'm not even in the mood to watch a horror film but I am because I'm annoyed by keeping Netflix movies for longer than I need to.
IN OTHER NEWS.
Went for coffee with some girl from OKC. She wasn't interesting. I talked a lot. Told her she could message me to hang out again.
I haven't heard from Camille. This is unsettling. I messaged her once while traveling and once when I got back. I figured she was just too busy to respond but I haven't heard anything at all from her. Was something wrong? Is she not talking to me on purpose? Should I send her more messages or just forget it? I genuinely like her, and wanted to keep on talking to her... so why... I feel like I at least deserve some answer. Eventually. Not sure what to do so I won't do anything.
And.
That's about it.
Wish I had more things to do outside.
Oh. Last Saturday Anthony Derrick and Dan came over to make Francesinha and swim a bit. Good times.
- music:Miss America - David Byrne
Nothing tragic happened this trip, which I guess is good but like on my 2008 trip, there's no real great story to tell. It just went well with a whole bunch of smaller stories.
But oh there was good food. Yes. Very good food.
I've gone through and rated all the photos and posted the good ones to facebook. I need to figure out some album thing for my own website. Actually I'm thinking of converting my personal website into a wordpress site. I don't really need the bulk of power behind Drupal, and honestly Drupal is such a hassle to update and maintain where as wordpress is easy.
And still single! Besides what happened in DC, I had absolutely no girl luck on the trip. That's alright, there were other things to enjoy.
Macbeth, the newer movie with Patrick Stewart, was not that great. The only thing good about it was Patrick Stewart. The end.
Mother, the Korean movie, was not so good at first but then watching it considering the twists involved, it's actually a really brilliant movie. I recommend it to anyone that wishes Shamalanana movies were actually good.
By the way.
I'm.
Starting to think...
About...
moving to Austin.
Maybe?
- music:Lapland - Ratatat
Once again at an airport, about to take off on another adventure. I spent most of the day doing final checks and preparations. Not much to say there. Found a good file application for my iPhone that works well with the guidebook PDFs I downloaded.
Tomorrow I'm gonna see Camille! Which should be great.
This also means I may not be updating LJ until April 18th when I get back.
Hasta la vista

So I got some stuff done instead, and at 4 I headed over to Bose's place. That's where we were meeting up for Mode's birthday. I brought him the Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal book that I bought myself for my birthday, which it seems like he really enjoyed (and yes, I told him straight out that it was a regift). We figured out our game plan and headed into San Jose. The deal was we were going to rent a room at a hotel, the Saint Claire I think, and use that as a base of operations so we wouldn't have to drive anywhere.
We dropped stuff off at the hotel room and headed out to happy hour at The Grill. They had really great prices for some excellent food. Kobe burgers for $12??? Nice. Got a few beers there too. We spent about 30-45 minutes arguing over the ration of the area of a square to that of a circle. We approximated it was π/4, or roughly 3/4ths. This was because we were trying to figure out why Franzia boxes seem to hold so much wine vs. a bottle of wine. Nerd arguments.
Anyhow, that was fun and afterwards we headed over to Safeway to pick up some alcohol. Bought way too much and brought it back to the hotel room. We then proceeded to drink more and play video games (I brought along the N64). I totally kicked everyone's ass, but felt a bit guilty about it. We switched games to try to find something that Mode was good at, but I think he was already pretty tipsy.
Anyhow, after spending some time there we headed 7-11 for whatever reason. Then stopped at another happy hour restaurant and drank a pitcher. Then we went to Camera 3 where we were going to see The Room. We met up with Vivek B who I haven't seen probably since 2004. He hadn't changed too much, and it was good seeing him. We hung out until the show started, and proceeded to enjoy yelling at the movie and all other crazy stuff you do when watching The Room. Lots of spoons were thrown. Lots of "BEST FRIENDS" were yelled.
Afterwards we went back to the room and played even more video games. Bose started winning at Mario Kart and I don't know where all my skill went.
Anyhow, after a while Vivek slipped out and we got tired, even though daylight savings time put us an hour into the future. Slept.
In the morning we took a little time getting up, made some coffee, supplied Mode with advil. Then we went out to Peggy Sue's for breakfast. I got a breakfast burrito that didn't really get along with my stomach for the rest of the day, but it still tasted pretty good.
We returned to our respective locations and that was that.
For the rest of the day I've been mildly productive, gathering the last few things together for my trip. Still gotta double check the packing, call USAA and BofA, work out, and do research on Eurail passes.
TWO MORE DAYS UNTIL I GET ON AN AIRPLANE
- music:Baringin Sabatona - Ellie's Family
Anyhow.
There is a game that is coming out on March 13th that looks absolutely amazing. Journey. It's coming out for PS3 only, and I suppose since my brother has one I'll ask to use his. It just looks exactly like the kind of video game I love.
What else.
I had a headache for the majority of the day. I slept it off, then downed 2 ibuprofen. Seemed to work. But biking home with a pounding head is difficult.
WEEKEND.
Tomorrow is a memorial service for Mrs. Mittelstet. Still not sure if I'm going to go or not. And then Mode's birthday party, which should rock although I think it might just be 3 of us...

3,359 Journal Entries (This will be the 3,360th)

3,360 / 10 years = 336 entries per year / 365.25 days per year = 0.92 entries per day.
Of course there were no entries in 2010, so it's really 1.02 entries per day.
How does that work? Well obviously sometimes I made a lot of entries on one day. In the beginning in fact I was making 2, 3, and 4 entries per day on a regular basis. The most being 8 posts on June 27th when I posted for the day before, two quizzes, two movie reviews and two updates to the day.
Here are the thousands milestones:

This journal has been there for so many events in my life. It's really a useful tool, although journals have kind of drifted off into oblivious because of facebook and other instant-quick-update sites. I wonder if I can somehow export my facebook history... HEY I can! Maybe I'll import all that to here.
March 8 will mark journal backup day. I'm going to go use LJBook to make a copy of all this.
- location:California
Got coffee with a girl I wanted to trade travel information with. She was nice. Didn't get many recommendations for the trip, but I gave her quite a few ideas for her road trip she's planning. And I got a list of restaurants around the South Bay I've got to check out.
I've been losing my motivation to do things lately. Need to get that going again before it drops to the levels I was at.
And tomorrow will mark the 10 year anniversary of this livejournal. Yes, this livejournal was started March 8th, 2002 (back then it was monkz, that was another time in my life...)
I'll make a post about those things tomorrow.

Either way, I have two new pairs that would have cost me $50, but with a sale and some gift card I happened to have it only cost me $30. Not bad. And maybe this pair will last me through the Europe trip.
Also bought some Stassen jasmine tea. It's essentially the ambrosia of teas.
Watched Delicatessen. Another JP Jeunet movie. Creative and entertaining, but only worth 4/5 stars. The sound was a bit off in some scenes I thought. And something about it just made it feel like the movie never got started. It was always in its introduction.
Went to BethAm to make a short promo movie this morning. Easy stuff. I like how happy they are with me over some simple work.
OH and on the way there this morning I stopped for breakfast at the Los Altos Bakery, and the guy finally recognized me! We had a quick chat about how I wasn't there for 2 years because I was traveling Asia. I wanted to talk to him more but he had other customers. I just left them a review on yelp.
- music:The Casbah 3/3/12 - Brian Parrish
I found Andres Segovia, actually found it through the Casbah Radio podcast. The host puts on the music during intermissions now and then when he's reading the songs. He just happened to mention the name in the last podcast so I instantly went and downloaded a compilation. Might even go buy a cd some day. Too bad he's dead.
But really I could imagine myself listening to this music when I had homework. Or when relaxing. Or reading. Or taking a train, or a bus, or during a long car ride.
Or long mornings drinking coffee and eating pancakes.
Or even cuddling to it. Maybe not sex, it's not sexy... but mood setting.
This Rush Limbaugh thing is interesting. I don't think our society works very well, but sometimes you catch a glimpse of a new emerging system of justice where corporations are forced to acknowledge morality for the sake of business. I mean that's been around for a long time but maybe it's slowly getting more and more accepted.
In other news. Second to last class. Almost done.
Also... shaved. Shaved a lot.
And.
Did some taxes work. Still going to go with our tax person but I'm going to try to figure out how to do this myself for next year's taxes.
I want to sleep now, but I think I'd feel like there's a bit more to be done with the day. Meh, forget it.
I'm excited about seeing Camille. I think about her.
- music:Luis de Narváez - Varations on 'Guárdame las vacas' - Andres Ségovia
There's not too much that went on today.
Put some things in my backpack. Worked a little on my trip journal. Etc etc. I've been kind of tired throughout the day.
Whenever I get messages on OKC they come in packs. I think I got messages for 4 or 5 different girls today. Make that 5.
I can't really think of anything I did today. It seems to have disappeared while I wasn't looking.
Anyhow, I'm in the mood to listen to the Smiths right now.
- music:Half A Person - The Smiths
I JUST FOUND WHERE I PUT ALL MY IMPORTANT CARDS.
In the box where I keep all my extra business cards. Duh. Of course that's the most logical place to put them. Way to go 2009 me.
- music:05 - Guerrilla War
My checklist has also grown. Here is it's current list of columns (and I'm checking each one I've done today so far:
- Brush/Floss √
- Paper Telephone √
- Post in Regular Journal √
- Pre-make Coffee √
- Rate/Edit Photos √
- 80 Push Ups √
- 100 Sit Ups
- Songsmithing √
- Travel Journal √
- iOS Lessons
- Spain Trip
- Hemdale √
So probably now I'm just going to gather a few things into my backpack for Spain. Yeah it's way too early to be packing, but I feel like the process may remind me of something I'm missing.
And I really don't feel like the iOS lessons today. May force myself to work on it tomorrow.
And the sit ups I'll do in a little bit.
Hm.
Watched Everything Is Illuminated. Interesting movie. I recommend watching it.
Andrea came over briefly to lament about her OKC date. Then jetted off for some Burning Man event.
Speaking of, this ticket system provided by Burning Man? Sucks. I didn't get chosen for the lottery, and when I tried to sign up for their STEP site it was already sold out (apparently it sold out 15 minutes after they opened it). Horrible system. I'll probably have to buy tickets from someone if I really want to go.
- music:Le roi est nu - Les Breastfeeders
Made some great fried rice dish instead of the quesapitapastadilla. Probably easier to clean up, but fried rice is always a pain to clean up after anyway.
Goin' out to play pool with Mode tonight.
Annnnnnnnd biked to work and back.
That's about it for today.
- music:Black Velvet Band - The Dubliners
Dentist this morning. Just a cleaning, but they told me my teeth are in better shape than before. I think it's because I've started flossing regularly. I wonder if I'm going to be able to keep that habit while traveling... We'll see. One thing I might consider doing though is changing my brushing schedule to the evening.
Went to Target to look for something. They didn't have it. Found a candy store in Los Altos tucked away in the back streets that had it. The girl working at the front (who I could tell totally had the hots for me, but she looked like she had never heard of VHS tapes) told me it had only been opened for 2 years.
Now I need to catch up on my checklist.

Ok. Moving on.
Biking to work is cold. Rained a little this morning but I lived. But I enjoy the extra time spent outside. I've been inside too much lately.
On the way back from work I called the dentist to reschedule an appointment I'd be having. At first I kind of wanted it to be after the trip, but today I had a tooth hurting a little and figured it would be best to get that fixed before leaving. Well I told them I was actually really near the office and maybe it would help if they could just give a quick look to see if it was trouble or anything. Well 10 minutes later I was in the dentist chair with drills buzzing on my tooth. Apparently instead of someone just looking to see if anything was up, he did a full on investigation and patch up work. Said that there was sort of a possible fracture starting and he buffed it out. And then I went to the front to reschedule my appointment again for after the trip, and to have both the cleaning and check up together, that way just to give the repairs some time or something, but the receptionist told me just to keep the Thursday appointment and then if the tooth started hurting again after the trip to call them. But she did it with an attitude that just kind of left me pissed off. And a bad taste in my mouth. Literally. They used some kind of strong alcohol solution to do something in there.
Watched A Very Long Engagement, the second to last Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie I haven't seen. I really would have liked to give it a full 5 stars but something inside me said that an hour after it ended I would only think it was a 4 star movie. But definitely worth watching. I'm looking forward to Delicatessen, which is 2 movies away on Netflix.
Made two mix cds for Camille. blahdeblahblah I'm going retard for her, which I know is a stupid bad idea BUTIDONTCARESHUTUP. Ok I'm not really that far gone, I just haven't been so into a girl in a while. It's nice.
AND YES. I'M GETTING THE GUMBY MOVIE TOMORROW THROUGH NETFLIX.
- music:Concrete & Clay - Unit 4+2
Reservations for the Semana Santa days in Spain are being made by Anthony now. Moving forward. Yes.
Oh did I mention that Kevin decided to un-bail himself from the trip? Yeah. Annoying, but anyhow he should make the trip more fun. His style of randomized play-it-by-ear kind of traveling may cause issues, or not, but we'll see. If I remember right he hasn't played the Europe game yet.
But the mini side trip to Maryland is going to be so awesome. Camille has reserved a hotel there which is baller (yes I said baller). If that goes well, I don't even care about the rest of the trip. Except Morocco. I want to love Morocco too.
Gotta figure out what to use for music too... Should I bring my iPhone and risk having it stolen? Or just bring an old iPod Touch?
Anyhow. Plans to be back on the road. Feels nice.
- music:Playing Your Game Baby - Barry White
Good movie I saw today. I like cute revenge movies.
Oh and also to note: Finished Zelda: Skyward Sword today. The final boss battle was annoying and short. I kept on thinking there was something more but no, he just has heavy hits and it's difficult to hit the right controls.

And yes, I did book tickets to Washington to visit Camille. I can't help but be captured by her. It's a risk that I think is worth taking.
So:
March 13th - 11:35 PM leave San Francisco
March 14th - 7:45 AM arrive in Washington DC
March 16th - 11:20 PM leave Washington DC
March 17th - 2:30 PM arrive in Barcelona
April 18th - 10:00 AM leave Barcelona
April 18th - 7:00 PM arrive in San Francisco
And it cost me $895.30 all together. Pretty sweet deal.
Other news:
The Constant Gardener is a depressing movie, but good. It was interesting to see how similar Africa is to parts of India.
Almost done rating photos. Just 2,000 more.
Apparently we have no non-expired syrup in the house, so I used honey.
My current facial hair is beginning to annoy me. I'm shaving tomorrow. That's what I've said the past three days.
Anything else? Not right now. Some work. Nothing interesting.
- music:What's In Store? - Architecture In Helsinki
Anyhow, waited around. A cop joined me. Told the parents about the situation. Got towed to the usual mechanic we use (thankfully it was just about 2 miles away. Brother picked me up and brought me to work.
Ugh this will cost me a lot. For the checks and such - both checking the battery and then for oil leaks (something they had recommended last time I brought the car there) - it cost $150. And then I got a call later in the day saying the alternator was fucked and we needed to replace that. Parts and labor coming to $650. wtf. Stupid car. I was even planning to bike to work today.
We really need to sell that piece of junk.
Anyhow.
After work came home and chatted a lot with Camille, the east coast girl. She's probably reading this blog now so I have to watch what I say, although I've always written this blog to a future me and not really anyone else. That being said, what the hell am I doing? I've convinced myself that it would be a great idea to visit her on the way to Spain next month. She's beautiful, fun to talk to, adorably nerdy, and all that junk I'm attracted to. But what is this, just some fun times? I guess I'd prefer to have the fun times than let them pass without even trying. And even despite the hopelessly low chances, it isn't impossible to hope for something more to come of this. But that's not how I should be thinking of this. Anyhow. Seems like a good idea at the moment.
Speaking of trips. What's with Kevin dragging on the ticket purchasing. I don't want this trip to get any more expensive because he's picked up flakey habits from that damned SF hipster crowd.
Sleep time.
- music:White City - The Pogues
This Russian girl Natasha is skyping me. She's nice, but I just don't like skyping, or rather I just don't like talking to people unless I'm actually there with them. When I'm in my room alone, it's me time, and I just feel like anyone talking to me (vocally) is an invasion. Meh, she would be a good contact to have whenever I plan on visiting Russia.
Speaking of girls, this thing with the Maryland girl is getting heavier. I'm now mostly committed to making a side trip there before my trip to Spain. We're both attracted to each other, and we know the risks and consequences and still think it's worth it. The least I could see getting out of this is some fun adventures in Maryland.
Last night watched Animal Kingdom, a dark Australian movie. Meh, okay. If you're into dark crime dramas.
I've also gone through all the movies I've taken through my life using my camera. It was pretty interesting to watch and I kind of wish I took more movie snippets. I'll try to remember that next time. Also going through all my photos is helping me to figure out what I need to remember when taking photos.
I still hate my voice. And I don't like how I can't stop using the word 'though' incorrectly.
- music:Survive Style5+ - James Shimoji
I've had that dream of being unable to steer a car before...
Anyhow. Besides that nothing happened today.
- music:The Lotus Eater - Opeth
Kat came over and we watched Airplane! Haven't seen it in a while, and it's still as funny as ever. I think I even caught one or two more jokes.
Went to Red Rock to do some trip planning with Anthony. We've got a pretty good schedule figured out, but I'm just a little concerned about traveling between cities and the timing for that. Also we really need to get Kevin completely figured out on his timing, and buy tickets. And then there's the reservations for Semana Santa...
I'm starting to get a little sick. My throat has been hurting for a few days now, but no full out symptoms of a cold. I think I may just need a few more vitamins.

- music:Destination Venus - Man Or Astro-man?
Saturday I planned to go up to SF for a bike ride with Kevin and other people. I was originally planning to go via Caltrain, but then I looked at the schedule and realized that the trains didn't work at all. So I drove up, and then had a bitch of a time finding a parking spot. Biked to Dolores where people met up and started the trek north.
It was a nice bike ride, and I don't think I've ever gone over the Golden Gate by bike or walking. But because I had a mountain bike, and I hadn't ridden a bike in something like 2 months, and because of all these other factors I'd like to use as excuses, I fell behind the others on the uphill climbs. It was really tough, and after a while I just completely ran out of energy. I would try to make my legs go faster and they just wouldn't. So that sucked. But I didn't fall extremely far behind and we still made the ferry on the other side.
We stopped at some greek restaurant, but I only had some toast and eggs since I didn't have any appetite. And then later we stopped for a drink before the ferry. The ride was relaxing, and the boat wasn't bad at all. Once we were back we rode to another bar. Saw a drunken wookiee lounging in a couch out on the curb. Apparently Kevin's tweet of that went somewhat viral.
Went to grab the jacket out of my car, and found a parking violation for $65. Fuck parking in San Francisco. I hate that shit. Really ruined my mood even more, but I tried to recover...
So then went back to Kev's place. Took a nap while watching Octopussy. Then I couldn't sleep, so I watched the first episode of 30 Rock, which was amusing and I may watch more. Then we got up to go to Stephanie's party. It was a comfortable house party, although the drinks they had there were STRONG. And tasted like Flintstones vitamins as someone pointed out. Anyhow, accidentally got really drunk, and somehow made it back to Kevin's at around 1. I misjudged those drinks, so ended up throwing up a little before going to sleep completely. Which was good because I wasn't hungover in the morning.
Got some brunch with the guys, and then headed back down. And I decided to make it a priority to finish watching the rest of One Piece, so I did that and just finished today. It was a long process but now I have freed up so much of my time. Hopefully I'm as productive as I thought I would be. Odd grammar.
What else. This girl in Maryland? I've been down this road before. She's really grand, which pulls my heart strings (as Queen would put it). Buuuut I know where this road most likely leads. I suppose there's not much I can do about it though...
- music:Mr. Banker - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Dinner was tiny pizza cupcakes, which were cute but the dough wasn't fully cooked through.
Nearing the end of my One Piece marathon. I'm tempted to work at it straight and leave behind other priorities, just so I can finish it and get back to full productivity... That's a hard decision... I should be done by the weekend I think.
Also got my new internal hard drive today. Copying over my current hard drive as we speak. Hello 550 extra GB. I will put photos in you.
Can't remember anything else of the dream, but I guess that shows my math skills are about as weird as anything else in dreams.
And I was so excited to use that money too.
- music:The Casbah 2/11/12 - Brian Parrish
I ate a lot of rice for dinner.
Watched a few episodes of One Piece.
Talked to a girl from Maryland, and she's cool, but she's in Maryland.
And that's about it.
- music:Sometime Ago - Stan Getz

Have you ever noticed that the box artwork for Cheez-Its only uses one image of a cracker repeated over and over again, with some of the salt in varying crackers photoshopped out just to give an illusion of different ones. I noticed this a few weeks ago and put the cover aside to scan in just to say something about it. Now that's it's said, my job here is done.
I've been scanning in all sorts of old documents lately and filing it into my computer's documents folder. Kind of nice going through old memories, but also I wrote a lot of embarrassing things back in high school. I guess considering it all, I only wrote things and saved it when I was in very dramatic moments of my life. I recall really disliking drama and avoiding it... But I guess not entirely.
Speaking of old times, I started talking to a very nice girl who I would be very attracted to if she didn't live on the other side of the country. Hm, this is very similar to what I was like back in early 2000...
Hung out with Mode yesterday. Did you know that Five Guys has amazing bacon burgers? And that Mongolian BBQ place on el camino is pretty damn filling as well.
Watched The Lion King, the remastered version. There were some pretty awesome one liners, but the best part was this song and dance number I had completely forgotten about.
- music:How Deep Is The Ocean? - Bill Evans
Today I'm trying to be productive. I made myself coffee and now you know ITS ON.
So here is what is on my list:

- Post to paper telephone (check)
- Post to journal (in progress)
- Scan documents
- Watch TEDs
- Laundry
- Write day of travel

So Kat came over this morning and we watched Scott Pilgrim vs The World. If it hadn't had Michael Cera, it would have been an awesome movie. But it was just a great movie, sadly. Now I kind of want to read the comic. I think it was based on a comic.
Last night went to the Fish Market with mom and sam. Note: I do not really like Rainbow Trout so much.
- music:Hammond Eggs #19 (repost) - Brian Parrish
Not much.
Anthony came over and we watched Ice Pirates.
Plans for Europe are developing. Most likely leaving March 19th and getting back April 17th.
Brandeis Meme facebook group is interesting. Some good, some not, but what more would I expect from 'deis?
- music:Rude Old Man - The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Anyhow.
Made some amazing sausage and egg fried rice. Just like the old days. Now my belly is happy, although I think I will indulge in some tea soon.
Other news: I've been looking out for this dude who I keep seeing walking down Grant road. I call him the Grand Road Metal Man. He's awesome, basically. Some day maybe I'll stop to high five him.
- music:A Clean Break (live) - Talking Heads
